Three ways to wear it.

The same small kit, three ways: an everyday face in about five minutes, a softly defined look, and a warmer face for the evening. Every step works with fingertips or one small brush.

The five-minute face.

For most days. Skin still looks like skin, with a little more evenness and color.

  1. Skin tint

Dot skin tint on the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Press and blend outward with your fingertips, and leave the edges sheer.

  2. Concealer, only where needed

Tap a little concealer around the nose, under the eyes, or on a spot. Blend the edges with your ring finger.

  3. Cream blush

Dab cream blush on the apples of the cheeks and blend up toward the temples. Sweep what is left on your finger across the lids.

  4. Mascara

One coat. Wiggle the wand at the base of the lashes, then pull through to the tips.

  5. Tinted balm

Swipe on tinted balm and press your lips together. Done.

Soft definition.

A little more shape around the eyes and cheeks, still easy to wear in daylight.

  1. Even out

Skin tint and concealer as in the five-minute face, kept thin.

  2. Brows

Fill sparse areas with short, light, hair-like strokes in the direction of growth, then brush through to soften.

  3. A smudged line

Draw eye pencil close to the upper lashes. Smudge it with a small brush or a fingertip so it reads as shadow, not a stripe.

  4. Two coats of mascara

Coat the top lashes, then add a second coat while the first is still slightly wet.

  5. Cheek color, placed higher

Blend cream blush a little higher than usual, along the cheekbone toward the temple, for a more sculpted look.

  6. Pencil and balm

Line and fill the lips with lip pencil, then blur the edge with tinted balm on top.

Look iii.

Evening warmth.

Low, warm light softens color, so evening makeup can carry more of it. Deeper cheeks, a smoky line, and a fuller lip.

  1. Build the base

Skin tint, then a second thin layer only where you want more coverage. Concealer goes on last.

  2. Warm the cheeks

Reach for a deeper, warmer cream blush than you wear by day. Sweep it from the cheek up and out, and blend a touch along the temples.

  3. A smoky line

Draw eye pencil along the upper lash line, a little thicker at the outer corner, and smudge it upward with a brush for a soft, smoky edge.

  4. Mascara, focused outward

Two or three coats, with most of the attention on the outer lashes.

  5. A deeper lip

Fill the whole lip with lip pencil for a deeper base, then press lip tint over the center.

  6. Check it in the light

Take a last look in the kind of light you will be in. If it is warm and low, a little more color usually looks right.
